Is Google Readying to Buy Sprint? Voicemail, Long Distance & Mobile Payment

Google and Sprint have become very chummy recently. In March, The pair announced that Google Voice would eventually provide voice mail service for all Sprint cell phones.

That voice mail integration kicked off earlier this month. We also learned that Google is providing international carrier service for calls from Sprint cell phones.

Now Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal both report that Google and Sprint are teaming on a mobile payment service.

Unnamed sources say that the service will run on such as the Nexus S. This can only mean that the mobile service is based on NFC (Near Field Commmunications).

If true, Google will be providing Spring with voice mail, long distance, and mobile payment services. You have to wonder if the next step is for Google to buy Sprint.
