Is YouTube Testing Out New Feeds For Blogs?

According to the Google Operating System unofficial Google news blog, YouTube is testing out a new feature for blogs.  The site appears to be testing special new pages that list all the most recent videos embedded by a specific blog, complete with excerpts from the blog posts and the ability to play all embedded videos in a single playlist.

The feature was first noted by French blogger Philippe Lagane of AccessOWeb, who happened across a special YouTube page with ‘YouTube videos mentioned by AccessOWeb.’ The page, as you can see in the screenshot below, includes video thumbnails, excerpts from the blog posts, links to both the video and post and functionality that allows viewers to “Play All” or add videos to a playlist.

At the moment, there does not appear to be any way to search for a specific blog’s page.  However, a Google search for [site:youtube.com/social/blog] does turn up about 50 results.  Many are in foreign languages.  On the GOS Blog, YouTuber Shay Carl reported that he stumbled upon a similar page for his blog, ShayCarl.tumblr.com, last week.  You can check out the feed here.  A quick perusal of the Google search also turned up pages for Mashable, Neatorama, AnandTech Forums, GameBattles Forums, Victory Road, DiverseHipHop, and a Natural Breast Enhancement site (huh!?).

I have reached out to YouTube for more information and will update this post when I find out more.  Until then, what do you think about the potential of this new feature?  I think it is a really neat way for online video fans to consume the video content picked out by their favorite blogs and look forward to seeing whether or not this will become a standard YouTube feature and how it will be used.  Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Update [June 6, 2011, 9:50pm]: Jacques P. Hebert of Global Communications and Public Affairs at YouTube told me, “We have been testing out our ‘As Seen On’ feature for the last year.  Beyond that, we don’t have any announcement at this point.”
