Sales for John Grisham’s new book The Confession are skyrocketing, thanks to the simultaneous release of the eBook version.
The Wall Street Journal has more: “’The Confession’ is the first of Mr. Grisham’s adult hardcover novels to also be available simultaneously as an e-book. Doubleday, an imprint of Bertelsmann AG’s Random House, says e-book sales were about one-third of week-one hardcover sales, or around 70,000. The novel, about a guilty man who allows an innocent man to go to jail in his place, also sold 160,000 hardcovers through Oct. 31, according to Nielsen BookScan…”
More publishers have been adopting a simultaneous eBook/print release strategy and these kinds of sales figures show that it is with good reason. EBooks are here and consumers want to be able to buy an eBook when the print is available. According to Association of American Publishers (AAP) sales figures, eBook sales increased by 158 percent in September compared to the same period last year–totaling $39.9 million in sales for the month.
