Jose Antonio Vargas Joins Huffington Post

The Huffington Post added some Pulitzer Prize punch to its newsroom, as Washington Post national reporter Jose Antonio Vargas joined the Website as technology and innovations editor.

HuffPost said Vargas will launch its Technology section in September, “tracking tech innovations and tech innovators in every field, including, politics, media, business and social networking,” and reporting on technology and its impact.

Vargas won a Pulitzer Prize as part of a team that covered the 2007 massacre at Virginia Tech. He had been with the Washington Post since 2005, and his 2006 series on HIV/AIDS in Washington, D.C., is the subject of The Other City, a feature-length documentary film set to premiere in 2010.

HuffPost co-founder and editor in chief Arianna Huffington said:

We’re delighted to have Jose on board. I have long admired Jose’s coverage of the intersection of politics and technology and his passion for exploring and communicating the many ways technological innovations impact our culture and our lives. He’s ideally qualified to launch our new Technology section, and he’ll play a key role in helping to drive HuffPost’s continued innovation, from leveraging social networking to expanding the ways we use citizen journalism. We look forward to working with him on developing new ways for HuffPost to continue to use the power of the Internet to reach new readers and engage existing ones more deeply.

Vargas added:

I’m excited to work with Arianna and the HuffPost team to a launch a Technology section that captures all of the ways in which technology has transformed and continues to impact our lives, from the latest gadgets and innovations to the rise of social networks and the way tech has changed our understanding of journalism and of community. I’m looking forward to helping to expand HuffPost’s place in this exciting conversation.
