Kindle 3.1 Update Brings Real Page Numbers & More

Amazon’s current generation Kindle (WiFi-only and 3G) will get a significant update in the near future according to the official Kindle Daily Post blog:

Early Preview of Free Software Update for Kindle

- Real Page Numbers: Finally!
- Public Notes: Make your book notes available for anyone to see
- Before You Go: Rate the book when you reach the end of a book
- New Newspaper and Magazine Layout

If you are too impatient to wait for Amazon to push the update to you over WiFi, you may want to consider reading Amazon’s instructions for downloading and manually updating your Kindle.

Kindle Software Update Version 3.1 — Early Preview Release

The 3.1 update for the WiFi-only Kindle is 23.5MB. The update process includes a couple of reboots. So, make sure your Kindle has a reasonable charge level before the update. I plugged my AC charger for the update process.
