One of the most common comments I heard when I let people hold my then new iPad in early April was: Wow, this thing is heavy!. In reality the WiFi-only iPad weighs in at just 1.5 pounds. However, it is about the size of a yellow note tablet so people incorrectly expect it to weigh about the same.

I wonder what those same people would make of the 5.5 pound and relatively gigantic dual screen

Kno tablet

The Kno team notes that their goal is to replace the contents of a 20 pound backpack with this 5.5 pound tablet. In concept and, perhaps surprisingly, in execution, I think the Kno is an interesting product. It can provide what appears to be a good book reading experience on dual color screens. It provides a stylus for on screen note writing.

But, its size makes and relatively narrow target audience (college students) seem like barriers to me. It is unlikely that college students will be able to completely replace the contents of their current backpack with the Kno. And, the Kno is so large (dual 14.1 screens) that it looks difficult to safely tote around and, even worse, throw around campus.

The Kno needs to widen its potential customer base and shrink its prodcut very soon. If not, I predict, this will be a footnote product like the Palm Foleo.
