Actor Leonardo DiCaprio is going social, investing in visual social media platform Mobli and taking an advisory position to help shape the future of the company. With videos and photos being uploaded by the likes of Paris Hilton, David Arquette and other big names, Mobli is no stranger to celebrities, but the announcement that Leo has actually stepped forward to invest and play a role in the future of the company is big news.
DiCaprio was one investor in what a press release from Mobli is calling “a star-studded A funding round of $4 million.” The amount that DiCaprio invested, as well as the identities of the other investors, has not been revealed.
DiCaprio says, “I’m very excited to be a part of Mobli, a company that is groundbreaking – that is taking an active role in revolutionizing the way people interact with visual information, whether they are creating or consuming it. Mobli allows people from all over the world to share moments.”
Interestingly enough, Mobli could have closed a much larger investment round but rejected other large offers. CEO Moshe Hogeg explains, “The order in which things are done is a big part of the recipe for success. We believe in our vision, our path and the progress the company has made as a visual platform for social and news oriented communication. Taking a larger round would have required a shift to a different place. We are excited about this round that brings in strategic investment at the perfect pace for us.”
For those of you not familiar with Mobli, it is a visual social media platform that aims to show people the world through the eyes of other people. Upload photos and videos of your personal experiences from your mobile devices and share them with the world, or browse through so see photos and video of what other people are experiencing.
