youtube.jpgLG and Google have signed a deal to create a YouTube-focused cell phone, according to gadget blog TechCrunch.

The move would position LG as a direct competitor to Apple’s iPhone/YouTube combination. LG claims their model will allow users to view, share, and upload new videos directly from the phone without the need for a computer, according to the report.

TechCrunch points out that unlike with the iPhone, the LG model will allow users to actually record and create videos on the go from their cell phones, and then upload them and share them to YouTube, all from the same device. Plus, the LG phone will support third-generation (3G) data networks, meaning that it will play videos much more smoothly than the iPhone does.

Of course, the iPhone is a real product, while the LG phone is currently vaporware and won’t be available until later this year.
