Limbo, Brightkite Merge Location-Based Social Networks

brightkite_48.jpgLocation-based mobile social networks Limbo and Brightkite have merged to create what they say will be the largest location-based social discovery service. The new entity, which carries the Brightkite brand, will focus on helping friends “increase face time and share real-world experiences.”

Limbo CEO Jonathon Linner is CEO of the new Brightkite, while Brightkite co-founder Martin May has taken on the role of EVP of products.

The combined company has two million unique monthly users signed on for its free service. It has distribution partnerships with Facebook, Apple, more than two dozen North American mobile operators and hundreds of carriers around the globe.
