LinkedIn reported third-quarter revenue of $252 million, up 81 percent over the same quarter last year. Its audited profit was $2.3 million for the quarter, compared to a net loss of $1.6 million in Q3 2011.

The professional social network has 55.5 million users and gets 110 million unique visitors per month, LinkedIn said. Its Talent Solutions subscriptions generated 55 percent of its revenue, up 4 percentage points since last year, followed by Marketing Solutions and, lastly, premium subscriptions, which brought in 20 percent.

The company attributed its success, in part, to its rollout of a redesigned homepage and a beefed up notifications system.

After the close of the quarter, LinkedIn also introduced redesigned user profile pages.
