In an effort to focus on new products, LinkedIn is shutting down its discussion board Answers. The company has announced that it will remove the forum from the site on January 31, 2013.
Similar to the Q&A site Quora, Answers is a forum where LinkedIn members can get advice on tough business questions from people they trust. Those who answer the questions can also establish themselves as experts in their field if the community members find their answers to be helpful.
It would appear that many of the features in the Answers forum are now redundant.
LinkedIn recently rolled out its Influencer program, in which the company selects business luminaries for others to follow. The professional network also has more than 1.5 million Groups for meeting others around specific interests, Polls for getting instant feedback on a question, and status updates that serve as conversation-starters among peers.
But the company might have a few more tricks up its sleeve.
Said the LinkedIn team in an email to members, “we’re focusing our efforts on developing new and more engaging ways to share and discuss professional topics across LinkedIn. We look forward to sharing the details with you in the coming months, so please stay tuned.”
