LinkedIn Updates BlackBerry App

linkedin, blackberry, social networks, mobile appsThe BlackBerry OS may be a zombie, but LinkedIn announced today that it had launched an updated app for the platform over the weekend.

Users of BlackBerry’s OS 6.0 had not been able to use the LinkedIn app at all.

“Since the launch of the Torch and the more recent opportunities to upgrade existing devices, we’ve been inundated with requests [to offer an update] through our feedback email address and customer support,” the company said.

In the United States, even BlackBerry’s core white collar constituency has been dwindling, with even slow-to-move government agencies abandoning the platform. But it still commands 6 percent of the global market — a number that is, surprisingly, not expected to drop before 2016, according to IDC.

LinkedIn is responding to that global market.

“BlackBerry has always had a strong global professional following, so you’ll find the new LinkedIn for BlackBerry app now also available in 8 new languages, including German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Indonesian, Hindi, and Portuguese,” the company’s blog post said.

Even so, the company didn’t fix a major glitch: Users still can’t fully exit the app.
