Location-aware mobile search services let consumers find the restaurants, gas stations, specific products and just about anything else that’s close to their current location. As consumer demand for local search grows, so does the money advertisers pour into the services.

A new study from the Kelsey Group says that local mobile search advertising in the US will become a $1.3 billion market by 2013, up from a mere $20 million last year.

According to a MediaPost article on the research, Kelsey forecasts the overall US mobile advertising market will grow from $160 million in 2008 to $3.1 billion by 2013. Spending on local mobile search is expected to grow faster than the rest of the mobile advertising market – 130% annually versus 81% for mobile advertising as a whole.
