Travel publisher Lonely Planet will now offer audio phrasebooks for java-enabled mobile phones, in a partnership with mobile travel application developer Steape, according to MediaPost.
The audio phrasebooks will be available in 10 languages, including English, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Cantonese, German, French, Italian, Japanese, Thai, Czech and Spanish. The report said that each one contains around 200 phrases with both text and audio translations, recorded by native speakers, with other languages currently under development.
Hundreds of cell phones should be capable of playing the phrasebooks, which sound out through the handset’s built-in loudspeaker, according to the article.
