LosAngelesKingsLogo.jpgReporter Rich Hammond used to cover the National Hockey League’s Los Angeles Kings for the Los Angeles Daily News. When the first puck is dropped this season, he will still be covering the Kings, but for the team’s Website, according to The New York Times.

Many local newspapers have stopped sending reporters on the road to cover teams due to budget cuts, but Hammond received a multiyear commitment from the Kings, as well as complete autonomy to post reporting or commentary, according to the Times. Kings spokesman Michael Altieri told the Times, “We have a passionate fan base that wants instant information about our team, but there’s been declining news coverage of us.”

Former New York Islanders public-relations director Chris Botta started Islanders Point Blank during the last NHL season, and he will keep running the site despite a reduced financial commitment from the Islanders.
