Self-publishing platform Lulu has partnered with Author Solutions to add a marketing platform to its toolset. The new marketing capability on Lulu lets authors create multimedia marketing campaigns for their books including author websites, tools for making videos and for creating social media outreach.

“We listened to our community, and they wanted enhanced options in services. As author needs evolve, Lulu continues to innovate with a deeper range of multi-media solutions for its customers as well as an even keener focus on personal attention,” explained Kathy Hensgen, VP of services sales, fulfillment and customer voice at Lulu, in a statement.

Lulu also announced this week that the company is working with the Book Genome Project on “a unique author-focused collaboration.” Together the companies are beta testing a tool called Helix that will let authors “compare their writing against a database of well-known books.” The idea is that this knowledge would give writers a good reference point for editing and marketing their work.
