How To Make Your Own YouTube Slam Video Duels

At the end of last year, YouTube announced YouTube Slam—a video discovery experiment that pins videos head-to-head and asks viewers to vote on which they like best. YouTube Slam offers contests on a variety of topics, from comedy to music, bizarre, cute and more.  Now, users are invited to create their own YouTube Slams.

YouTube software engineer Sanketh Shetty writes on the YouTube blog, “You can now turn any of your playlists into a YouTube Slam.  Play solo, share the YouTube link with your friends or even play together in a Google+ Hangout.”

So how does it work?  It’s easy.  Just create a playlist of all the videos that you want to include in your Slam.  Note that you have to choose at least two videos (after all, this is head-to-head competition) and the videos should be public.  Then, go to youtube.com/slam/create.  You’ll see a list of all your playlists and all you have to do is click ‘Create Slam’ next to the playlist you want to use.  Click ‘Play Slam’ and it will take you to the slam page and you can share the link with your friends.

As more people play your slam and choose which videos they prefer, a list of “winners” will be created.  These are the most popular videos in the slam.  I created a Slam with some of my favorite 80s music.  Click here to check it out.

If you want to play Slams live with friends you can click ‘Start a Google+ Hangout’ underneath where it says ‘Play Slam with your friends.’

Will you be creating your own YouTube Slam?  Feel free to share the link with us in the comments below!
