gutfeld_1-26.jpgWhen “The Media is Dying” speaks on Twitter, the industry it covers is listening. With nearly 10,000 followers and a write-up in the New York Times last month, it provides a valuable resource for hirings and firings in the media world.

So on Thursday when it tweeted, “FOX NEWS is canceling ‘REDEYE’,” FNC’s late-late night comedy/news hybrid, we followed up on the unsourced comment. Fox News says the tweet was wrong — and Red Eye is absolutely not being canceled. Red Eye has embraced the Twitter medium as well, as the show’s ombudsman Andy Levy has made a push on air to up his follower total.

One fan of the show is Washington Times columnist and Drudge Report editor Andrew Breitbart, who writes, “Two years into its late, late, late-night (or early, early morning – depending on your biological clock) cable news run, ‘Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld‘ has solidified itself as television’s most reliably absurdist, unpredictable and laugh-provoking news hour.”

With the cast of regulars holding different political beliefs (but sharing a twisted sense of humor), Breitbart writes, “Participants aren’t pitted to hate one another for disagreeing over farm bills, sex dolls and first-family fist bumps.”
