Mediabistro Launches Online Literary Festival

If you need help with your writing project and you can’t get away for a conference, here’s a way to get feedback from industry experts and other professionals without leaving your desk.

Mediabistro, the parent company of Social Times, has announced its first annual Literary Festival: an interactive online event for writers that will take place from July 16 to August 1, 2012.

Susan Orlean, author of The Orchid Thief, will kick off the event with a keynote speech about her new book, Rin Tin Tin, which tells the story of the German shepherd from the TV series and numerous Hollywood films. She’ll follow up with an interactive Q&A session.

There will also be workshops on everything from pitching an agent to incorporating social media into your writing strategy. Kate Rockland, author of 150 Pounds, will show you how to “Visualize Your Creative Writing Project with Pinterest.”

In addition, there will be:

  • Practical how-to sessions from agents, editors, and writers that show you how to put big ideas into immediate practice.
  • Writing workshops with authors and peers. Get feedback on your writing project.
  • Peer interaction: Make connections with other writers from across the globe and participate in our summer reading group.
