Meporter for iPhone: Become a Citizen Reporter & Get Rewarded

A lot of get our breaking news from sources on social networks like Twitter and Facebook. So, why not formalize the process of ordinary people breaking news and following up? That’s the idea behind the new free iPhone app Meporter.

Meporter Launches Local Mobile Newsdesk at TechCrunch Disrupt

The free iPhone app lets you quickly assign a title for the event, attach a photo or video, text about the event, a category and location. The item can be simultaneously posted to Meporter, Facebook and Twitter.

An interesting twist to the service is that people who post news items can earn “Press Passes” which can be redeemed in the Meporter store for partner offers and merchandise.

Posting to Meporter requires a login. You can authenticate with Meporter using Twitter or Facebook Connect. However, while Twitter let me get started with the authentication process, Meporter’s Facebook Connect failed.
