Mets’ Josh Thole Quits Twitter: “I thought this was supposed to be fun.”

New York Mets catcher Josh Thole placed the Twitter account he started during spring training on waivers for the purpose of its unconditional release.

Like the team as a whole, Thole has been struggling through this point in the 2011 Major League Baseball season, and he told The Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J., that being reminded of it constantly by his Twitter followers wasn’t helping.

Thole told the newspaper Twitter feedback he received included name-calling, hitting advice, and other negative sentiment, adding, “I thought this was supposed to be fun. They’re ruthless on there.”
