Microsoft announces Windows Marketplace partners, tweaked policies, designer WinMo 6.5 themes
…Chris Ziegler notes the minimum requirements to determine whether a Windows Mobile smartphone can be upgraded to a Windows Phone running Windows Mobile 6.5. These requirements are:
- A device that runs Windows Mobile 6.1
- 128MB RAM
- 400MHz processor
Here’s the thing though: Historically, Windows Mobile smartphone upgrades have been a hit-or-miss affair. And, if you, like me, are running a generation old device based on Windows Mobile 6.0 instead of 6.1, the odds are 100% that your device will not have a 6.5 upgrade available for it even if the hardware meets the minimum requirement.
It will be interesting to see how many 6.1 based smartphones will have 6.5 upgrades approved and available through U.S. carriers.
