I’ve visited Microsoft’s Redmond campus at least once a year since the early 1990s. And, you know what. I still get disoriented in their buildings (and, not it is not from drinking Microsoft Koolaid
. So, I watched Todd Bishop’s video of Microsoft’s Loke Uei demonstrating an in-building map system based on Microsoft tag with great interest…
Video: Microsoft’s ‘GoMap’ app
The system uses Microsoft’s 2D Microsoft Tag barcode technology (actually colored triangles vs. black and white bars) to ID your current location and then tell you how to get to a destination.
I have a slightly different view of how it should work though. It should be much more bread crumb trail-like by giving you directions to get you to the next bread crumb (Microsoft Tag) in addition to giving you a complete path. This lets you reroute if you get distracted, misdirected, or just wandered a bit to see something and need to get back on track.
