Microsoft’s new MSN Mobile portal (located at mobile.msn.com) offers news, sports information, entertainment features and access to services like e-mail, search, maps and instant messaging all on one page, according to this Reuters report.
Microsoft had much of this in place before. But the new portal site is a significant step forward, with the ability to detect what kind of handset you’re using, and adjust the site formatting and font size as necessary.
The iPhone and the new MSN portal reflect how companies are trying to address consumer dissatisfaction with surfing the Internet on mobile phones, Sterling Market Intelligence founding principal Greg Sterling said in the article, noting that “small screens and slow networks contributed to a poor experience for most users.”
