I often said (written) that I’m not looking forward to seeing Adobe Flash mobile on smartphones. That will, IMHO, just lead to annoying and incredibly heavy (lots of bytes traveling through the 3G airwaves) splash pages and not much else. I have the same feeling about Microsoft’s competing Silverlight. However, I have to admit that when I read Mary-Jo Foley’s ZDNet piece…
That’s one way to get Silverlight on a mobile device: Port it to Moblin Linux
…I had to chuckle while thinking about how Microsoft’s own Windows Mobile has been left out in the cold again. I don’t think this will amount to much for either Moblin (Intel/Novell’s mobile Linux platform) or Windows Mobile in the plus or minus columns. After all, what is the driver for the ordinary mobile user to want Silverlight? What’s the killer site (think YouTube) or client-side mobile app?
So, until a killer web-site or app needing Silverlight shows up, I’m putting this development in the “I don’t care” pile.
