Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) announced her decision to introduce a bill this week to legalize cell phone unlocking. This decision comes just a day after the White House announced its official support in response to 140,000+ petitioners wishing to legalize cell phones unlocking.

Klochubar said that consumers “should be free to choose the phone and service that best fits their needs and their budgets… I will continue to work to advance commonsense measures to protect consumers and promote competition.” The Senator is not alone. The Hill also reported that other Senators and Representatives are supporting the White House in its decision: Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), Jared Polis (D-Colo.), and Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah).
