Anyone who doubts that mobile content is fast becoming a major force in the digital world should have a look at a new report issued by advisory firm Chetan Sharma Consulting, which states that the U.S. wireless data market generated third quarter services revenues of $8.8 billion, FierceMobileContent reports.
“Mobile data revenues in the U.S. increased 7.3 percent quarter-over-quarter and 37.5 percent year-over-year–during the first nine months of 2008, mobile data has now yielded combined revenues of $24.5 billion, equal to revenue totals for all 12 months of 2007.”
Messaging still makes up a large portion, with 105 billion text messages sent every month; that’s about one per two hours per subscriber in the U.S., which is actually half the rate of a subscriber in the Philippines, the report said. For more numbers, including a data breakdown by carrier, check out the full report.
