The New York Times reports that Mobitv, a service which offers live television broadcasts across 20 mobile networks, is gearing up for the Presidential Inauguration. The company is busy addressing network overload issues before the January 20 live event in order to handle the expected increase in traffic.
Mobitv has been delivering network television shows like NBC’s The Office and 30 Rock for sometime now. The recent presidential debates brought a surge of new users to the service; the company estimates that viewership has doubled since the pre-election TV coverage.
A Mobitv subscription is $9.99 a month, as well as the cost of the data plan on the mobile device. Currently there are approximately 5 million subscribers to the service.
