Monster To Challenge Linkedln With BeKnown; A Job Network Within Facebook

Monster.com, a global leader in job placement, has decided to respond to LinkedIn with a job network of its own. Monster’s job based social network is called BeKnown, and will exist as a Facebook. BeKnown allows the users to create professional networks facilitated by the environment created by Monster without ever leaving Facebook. Users can download BeKnown at the Facebook apps site in one of the 19 available languages.

According to an estimate by Monster around 700 million users will be able to import their professional information to the Facebook app and set up their own professional network. Further Monster’s registered users can also import their data to the Facebook app and set up professional networks there as well. In a statement, the company’s global Chief Information Officer and head of product Darko Dejanovic said:

BeKnown answers the need and challenge in the marketplace for people to build their professional networks on Facebook while keeping personal and work-related contacts and content completely separate. An estimated 700 million people globally live their lives through Facebook and 97% of the Fortune 500 companies turn to Monster to find talent. BeKnown now gives people and companies the ability to utilize that vast network for professional gain by tapping into the power of Monster and Facebook.

The most important aspect for Facebook users is the ability to create a network of professional contacts, which can be kept private from the connections among friends and family. With BeKnown, the users will be able to search for new jobs and also see who in their professional network is connected to a job or a job opportunity they like.

The app also provides an endorsement option where the users can endorse other users, either with a general “thumbs up” or a more specific written endorsement. The endorsements are only visible on the profile of the endorsee after his approval.

Sal Iannuzzi, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Monster Worldwide said in a statement:

BeKnown is another extension of our commitment to meet the evolving needs of job seekers and employers by adding professional networking to their online recruitment, job search, and career management toolkit. Whether it’s through mobile apps, Career Ad Network (the only recruitment ad network that reaches a third of all Internet users), or the world’s largest social network, our mission is to connect people and job opportunities through any and all methods that produce meaningful results.

Monster is also working on a Social Referral Program which will help BeKnown users to pass along specific jobs through their BeKnown network. The program will be released soon in beta form according to the company.

The BeKnown network offers advantages to companies searching for talent as well, for instance;

  • BeKnown provides a vast source of potential global talent on Facebook  with estimated 700 million members span ages, income levels and ethnic groups
  • New recruitment visibility opportunities are created and reach of job posting is extended in a high engagement environment
  • As the BeKnown users follow company job and network activity the engagement opportunities will increase with the passive job seekers.
  • A referral source is activated between recruiter and employee.

Monster is years behind LinkedIn, which started nurturing its profession network of people, their careers, employers, and other work-related social information back in 2003. Still their idea has a potential to attract loads of job seekers and recruiters. We have already seen success of another career networking app named BranchOut on Facebook with an estimated 800,000 users. With the company’s past and huge user base, Monster might give a tough competition to LinkedIn.
