Motown Founder Barry Gordy’s Memoir-Turns-Musical Now eBook

Berry Gordy‘s story is interesting in any format. The legendary record producer’s classic memoir on how he founded Motown, To Be Loved: The Music, The Magic, The Memories of Motown, became the basis for his Tony-nominated Broadway hit, “Motown The Musical,” and is now being adapted into an eBook from RosettaBooks.

In the eBook, Gordy regales readers with his personal history as featherweight boxer/ high school dropout who borrowed $800 to form “Hitsville U.S.A.” and found Motown. Check it out:

In To Be Loved, Berry tells of his life, including his birth in Detroit as the seventh of eight children, his service in the Korean War, and the jazz record store he opened that launched his iconic career in music. A struggling songwriter with a dream of his own label and a golden gift for discovering and nurturing talent, he became a music mogul who faced racism and personal and professional challenges to bring his artists to the air waves and television, and in the process wrote or co-wrote more than 240 hit songs for his stars. At the peak of its influence in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, Motown charted more than a hundred Top 10 hits.

The eBook is available at the major eBook stores including: Kindle, Nook and iBookstore, as well as through giftcards being sold at Lunt-Fontanne Theatre where the musical is currently running.
