Move Over, Billboard: YouTube 100 Chart Debuts

“On the Floor” by Jennifer Lopez finished atop the inaugural YouTube 100, a new weekly chart on the YouTube Music page that tracks the popularity of both professional and user-generated music videos, as well as viral videos.

Music product manager Chris LaRosa said on the YouTube Blog that the Google-owned video site will soon begin archiving its charts, adding, “Not only does the YouTube 100 give props when fans make original videos for popular songs, it also captures YouTube’s one-of-a-kind musical diversity: Nice Peter ranks on the chart alongside global radio stars, and Rebecca Black hits the top 10.”

Notable videos on the YouTube 100 included “Judas” by Lady Gaga at No. 2, “Friday” by Rebecca Black at No. 8, “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga at No. 13, “Darth Vader vs. Hitler” by Nice Peter at No. 44, and “Love the Way You Lie, Part II” by Rihanna occupying the 100th and final slot.
