Hi ThinkMobile readers - all the great mobile apps, devices and reviews are now a part of mediabistro's SocialTimes.com. Thanks for reading!

make-ur-tones_0302.jpgMobile music service provider mSpot is going direct-to-consumer for the first time. The company, whose various mobile radio, movie, music sync and ringtone creation offerings have only been accessible through carrier services, has launched a consumer site for Make-UR-Tones.

Initially available for Sprint and AT&T customers, the new Make-UR-Tones site lets users choose a song from the mSpot library of 400,000-plus tracks and use the Make-UR-Tones editor to create a ringtone of their favorite 30-second snippet instead of being limited to what the labels want to offer. Consumers can then download their custom ringtones for $2.99 each.

The Make-UR-Tones catalog includes tracks from EMI, Universal, Warner and Sony Music as well as indie music from INgrooves and IRIS.

mSpot plans to open the consumer Web site to customers of other major carriers, but no specific dates have been announced.
