MTV Reboots ‘House of Style’

The 1990′s series “House of Style” returns today to MTV. Supermodels Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls will replace Cindy Crawford as hosts as their limo pulls up to the Paris Opera House for Fashion Week. Here’s what’s happening inside that limo:

“It took me a while to get used to this fashion calendar, because it was something that I was totally unaware of when I was growing up in St. Louis,” explains Karlie.

She’s used to it now. First stop is the Stella McCartney fashion show, where the girls are dressed from head to toe in bright colors, floral prints, and transparent layers.

“It’s very much a conversation between a male and a female,” McCartney says of her collection. “You’re bringing those two moments together.”

These are the tamest fashions they will wear all day. Jean Paul Gaultier will put Joan in fake Michael Jackson hair, while Karlie will wear beads à la Boy George. The early 90′s are back in more ways than one.

The show is not all clothes. Backstage, the girls swap childhood stories, like Joan sweating in her double socks in Puerto Rico and Karlie standing a foot taller than her prom date.

This time around, MTV’s series will play out on digital, mobile and social channels as well as on television. ”We really understand what House of Style was,” Joan says, “and now it’s our chance to do it in a different generation. That’s the most amazing time to do it.”
