A new study from market research firm NPD Group said that 65 percent of cell phones purchased in the second quarter of 2008 were music-enabled, according to a new FierceMobileContent article. That’s a significant jump from 45 percent of handset sales for the same year-ago period.
That’s also despite the fact that cell phone sales actually declined 13 percent compared to the same quarter in 2007. The report said that Motorola’s share of the U.S. market dropped to 27 percent. But they’re still on top, although LG and Samsung are both closing in with 20 percent share each. (Again, this is all for the U.S.—Nokia is on top globally.)
