MyTime Pays Users to Book Appointments Online for Favorite Businesses

local search, deals, groupon, livingsocial, mytime, favorites, google calendarMyTime, a local search website that allows users to schedule appointments on the site, has launched a new feature that invites users to import select service-providers to a “favorites” page where they can book with one click, and gives them a $10 discount at every business they list.

“Basically, we’re making a big effort to move appointment booking online and financially encouraging consumers to do so,” said co-founder and CEO Ethan Anderson in an email.

The favorites page automatically imports service providers, such as massage therapists and hairdressers, the user has interacted with on Facebook or Foursquare or using Google Calendar. It displays appointment histories at those businesses and sends the user reminder when it’s time for the next appointment — an oil change or veterinary appointment, for example. Users can also rate businesses on their Favorites page.

The new feature aims to increase user retention, as users bring more of their scheduling and communication onto it.

“We don’t think people should need to visit different websites every time they need something done. It would be like going to a 10 vendors’ websites instead of Amazon when you want to shop. I think [Favorites] really transforms MyTime from an ‘online store to purchase local services’ into something far more central in a person’s life,” said Anderson.

The feature also seems targeted to expand the number of businesses that list their services on MyTime.

Businesses to list their schedules for free, but MyTime takes a substantial chunk of bookings made via some of its premium services, such as advertising hard-to-fill appointment times on social networks and allowing businesses to charge more for popular times.

MyTime launched in February. It’s currently limited to Los Angeles businesses.
