CNET’s Crave blog reports that Napster just redesigned its music service and software.
“Of particular note are the launch of a Web-based version of the service, which will enable Mac and Linux users to join in the fun, and the addition of the Automix feature, a new music discovery tool,” the report said.
There are a lot of Napster-compatible portable MP3 players and cell phones out there, so the latest redesign could help bring more users into the fold. The best thing about Napster remains its relatively low-cost subscription service. Many folks don’t like the idea of having to pay $15 or so per month for music access, since they never end up “owning” any tracks. But that model lets you listen to any of the millions of tracks on Napster’s service as many times as you wish. And face it, there’s only so many times you can listen to Paris Hilton’s single.
