NASA Crew To Field YouTube Questions Live From Space

YouTube interviews have become a really cool way for every day people to get their questions answered by everyone from President Obama to Elmo and now NASA astronauts will be fielding your questions live as they hurdle around the planet at 17,500 miles per hour.

According to a blog post that went up this morning on the YouTube Blog and the Official Google Blog, on May 2, 2011, NASA Commander Mark Kelley and the crew of the STS-134, which launches into space this Friday for the final mission of the Space Shuttle Endeavor, will be answering your questions live from space.  Pretty cool, eh?

The interview, brought to you by YouTube, Google and PBS NewsHour will stream live from the PBS NewsHour YouTube page.  There are several ways for you to submit your question for Mark Kelley and his crew.  Submit a text or video question via YouTube, or Tweet your question using the hashtag #utalk2nasa.  The top questions will be asked and answered in the live interview next Monday.

Feel free to ask a question about anything from the future of space travel to innovation and technology, life in space, and more.  You’ve got until Saturday April 30 at midnight ET to submit your question. I’d like to know what they eat up there!  I had freeze dried ice cream and strawberries from the Air and Space Museum in DC when I was a kid and it was delicious, but I don’t know if I could handle it for every meal!

YouTube offers up a few suggestions for questions on their blog.  They say that video questions are preferred and should be a maximum of 20 seconds in length.

Space fans will also be able to watch the launch on Friday April 29 beginning at 3:47pm ET on the PBS NewsHour YouTube channel.  If you can’t make the live streaming, both the launch and the interview will be archived so you can watch them after the fact.

What would you like to ask NASA astronauts as they circle the planet?
