NBC Universal Digital Studios and Samsung are partnering on a new digital series, “FCU: Fact Checkers Unit.”
The series will integrate Samsung’s Galaxy S smartphone into the plotline.
The series, based on a short film of the same name, follows two fact-checkers ar the fictional Dictum magazine, where they are tasked with ensuring that even the most absurd celebrity reports are vetted:
Real celebrities, including Luke Perry, Alex Trebek, Jon Heder and Dave Navarro have signed on to play themselves in the series.
NBC’s digital studio has been ahead of the curve when it comes to creating original web content, with clever product integration. Previous series have incorporated cars and soft drinks into the plotlines, so a mobile phone is right in line with their previous efforts.
“As the leading producer and distributor of original digital content, “FCU: Fact Checker’s Unit” represents a logical next step for our studio’s production and distribution prowess, combining buzz-worthy programming with quality content and recognizable talent,” said Cameron Death, Vice President, NBC Universal Digital Studio announcing the pickup. “Along with our partners at Samsung, we know that there is a built-in audience that loved the film short and we have further enhanced the original concept that celebrates how far these two obsessed guys will go to find out the truth.”
The series will premiere August 17 at Factcheckers.com, TV VOD platforms and through Apple iTunes.
