Looking for a good movie to stream on Netflix tonight? I know, good movies on Netflix streaming are few and far between and it looks like the selection may be even more ridiculous than all of us Netflix subscribers thought! While Netflix doesn’t have any Disney or Pixar movies, it looks like they have a whole slew of knock-offs, from ‘Chop Kick Panda’ to ‘Kiara The Brave’ and the ‘Little Cars’ series.
Forbes contributor Erik Kain uncovered this strange phenomenon explaining that, “With the rise of internet streaming video, knock-off films like ‘Kiara the Brave’ are making a comeback.”
Netflix’s contract with Disney and Pixar has ended and knock-off studios are taking full advantage with “Mockbusters” designed to trick viewers into thinking they’re the real deal. Take the ‘Kiara The Brave’ graphic below, for instance. Check out that font and that red-haired protagonist. Those little tidbits, paired with the fact that this movie comes up first in a search result for ‘Brave’ have likely duped countless viewers into watching this horrid knockoff (check out the gawd-awful trailer here).
Not surprisingly, Netflix viewers are none too pleased. Pages and pages of reviews (17 pages to be exact) tout the movie as a rip off, a waste of time and money, pathetic and even evil! For shame, Netflix, for shame!
I think the final comment in the screenshot says it all. “Dear Netflix, Please stop adding movies like this, they bring down your entire library. Sincerely, a PAYING customer.”
Check out the great Forbes post to find out more about who’s behind these “mockbusters” and others, like ‘Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies’ and others and let us know what you think. Have you fallen prey to knock-offs on Netflix yet? And am I the only one who is kind of interested in checking out some of these mockbusters this weekend to see just how bad they are?
