NetGalley Has Restored Kindle Support

The digital galley service NetGalley announced today that it’s once again able to support the Amazon Kindle. It had removed Kindle support some months ago, but never explained why. The cause appeared to be some kind of conflict with Amazon, but this has not been confirmed.

The good news here is that the renewed Kindle support doesn’t present a major inconvenience for users. You can send galleys to your Kindle over email, and it works the exact same way as any other document sent to your Kindle. I was half expecting to learn that the restored service would be tied into the Kindle lending ability. Publishers and Amazon might have been pushing for it as a way of restricting how long users can keep a copy. Right now there’s no limit, but I’m sure at least some publishers would like one.
