Bloggers shared the most news links to an item in USA Today saying that federal workers’ salaries have risen tenfold in the past five years and doubled since President Barack Obama took office, while good fortune for Google employees in the form of raises and holiday bonuses of $1,000 topped the list of most-Tweeted links, and the most-watched news and politics video on YouTube was Italian politician Nichi Vendola speaking about gay rights, according to the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism’s New Media Index for the week of Nov. 8-12.

The government workers’ windfall accounted for 21 percent of news links shared via the blogosphere, and it was followed by: global warming, at 17 percent; Grand Prix races, also at 17 percent; the Obama administration and the economy, at 12 percent; and an op-ed in USA Today by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) talking up her party’s achievements, at 6 percent.

Mashable continued to dominate the list of most-Tweeted links, accounting for four of the five, with the exception being a BBC report about the removal of The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure: a Child-Lover’s Code of Conduct from Amazon, which placed fourth at 9 percent. Mashable’s report on the Google raises accounted for 21 percent of Tweeted links; its item about Twitter’s integration with Ping tallied 12 percent; 10 percent of links shared via Twitter were to a story on the Center for Public Integrity’s HTML5 project; and the Web site’s report on Seesmic changing its focus also accounted for 9 percent of shared links.

Vendola was followed on the list of most-shared YouTube news and politics videos by: a video from comedy group Die Aussenseiter; a German comedy “news” show from Hamburger Hanger; the Nov. 2 installment of The Philip DeFranco Show; and members of Mexican show Venga la Alegria discussing singing-competition show La Academica.
