WCPO-TV Cincinnati investigative reporter Hagit Limor assumed the role of president of the Society of Professional Journalists Tuesday night on the last night of the 2010 SPJ Convention & National Journalism Conference in Las Vegas.

Limor had served as president-elect for the past year, and she succeeds James Madison University journalism instructor Kevin Z. Smith atop SPJ. Her term will last one year.

Limor said at her induction:

Here I am standing before you, and I’m truly humbled but look forward to a year of service. We’re all here for a reason. We have all been drawn to this room at this moment by a common denominator. We’re fighting for a way of life.

We have future generations to rely on us for factual information. Only we watchdogs can prevent the worst of history from rising again.
