Singapore’s telecom monopoly SingTel is taking a new approach to news aggregation; rather than gather stories on related topics, Newsloop pulls together articles on the island nation of Singapore.

Like the other aggregation apps, Newsloop learns what you like to read and offers new content based on how you share and respond to the articles. This app gathers content on 20 categories from over 150 sources, including both local Singapore newspaper as well as international sources like CNet, Bloomberg, Reuters, and BBC.

Here’s more detail:

Cheong Hai Thoo, SingTel’s Head of Multimedia, said that NewsLoop is designed by Singaporeans for Singaporeans.  It differentiates itself from other news apps by being the first to cater specifically to the needs and interests of local readers.  It also provides local media and bloggers with a powerful new platform to reach a wider audience and earn additional revenue for their content.

You can find the app in iTunes. It’s iPad only at the moment. The iPhone version will be coming shortly.
