Nextdoor App Brings Neighbors Together in Private Online Communities

You just can’t beat a good neighbor, but if you are a bit shy or naturally introverted, having access to a neighborhood app like Nextdoor can help with the introductions. The private web and mobile platform allows neighbors to connect using their geographical location. You can only join based on your real name and real address – anonymous neighbors are not allowed!

Once you’ve joined your neighborhood, you can have discussions and share media about lost items, pothole repairs, or just fun BBQ parties. Here’s a list of things people are using Nextdoor to do:

  • Quickly get the word out about a break-in
  • Organize a Neighborhood Watch Group
  • Track down a trustworthy babysitter
  • Find out who does the best paint job in town
  • Ask for help keeping an eye out for a lost dog
  • Find a new home for an outgrown bike
  • Finally call that nice man down the street by his first name

Here’s a nice interview of a Nextdoor user in Phoenix, AZ on his local ABC station:

California city officials from NAPA, Riverside, Ventura, are also using the platform to broadcast city-wide updates and communicate with residents. To see if your city or neighborhood is participating, visit Nextdoor.com.
