N-Gage started out as a Nokia mobile game phone way back in 2003. It was, in some ways a proto-iPhone with serious (for the time) gaming chops that was also a capable voice phone. However, unlike the iPhone, N-Gage did not have a thriving app eco-system grow up around it. And, it disappeared from the shelves relatively soon afterwards. Nokia wasn’t done with it, however. N-Gage re-emerged as a mobile gaming brand for Nokia. So, what now? Well, it is disappearing again according to this N-Gage press release…
Mobile gaming evolves — Ovi Store is here
Here are the details…
- N-Gage games can be purchased until September 2010
- Nokia mobile games are migrating to the Ovi Store
- Games can continued to be played past September 2010
- However, community features in games will stop working after September 2010
- The N-Gage.com website will remain present throughout 2010 (no word about 2011)
That’s it! Goodbye again, N-Gage!
