Well, Nokia finally announced their entry into the netbook market…
Nokia Booklet 3G brings all day mobility to the PC world
…and I’m totally underwhelmed and disappointed. Here’s my take based on the description in their press release:
- Name: Nokia Booklet 3G. Yawn. Piglet 3G would have been funny and amusing. Booklet? Not so much
- Operating System: Microsoft Windows. Incredibly disappointing. I had hoped Nokia would provide the leadership to create a successful Linux based product. Perhaps their own Maemo OS used in their Internet tablets. Ubuntu Netbook Remix (which I like a lot) or even Moblin (which I did not like much) would have been interesting and had a lot of potential with a big hardware firm like Nokia behind it
- 12 hours battery life: Now, this is very impressive if true
- 1.25 kilograms == 2.75 pounds. The weight is impressive only because of the reported 12 hour battery life. How are they pulling this off?
- 3G/HSPA & WiFi: Other manufacturers beat them to this
- HMDI port for HD video out: Lacking an optical spindle (DVD), that’s a lot of video ripping or download to watch anything coming out of that port
- Webcam, Bluetooth, SD card reader, 10-inch HD display, A-GPS: Didn’t Dell do this a few months ago?
- Price and availability to be announced on September 2. What? Nokia announced a yawner of a product and doesn’t know how much they will charge or where it will be sold?
