Showing once again that it is much more than a leading handset maker, Nokia did as expected and announced its own mobile app store at Mobile World Congress.
The virtual doors of the Ovi Store don’t open until May, but developers and content providers can start uploading their content next month.
According to Nokia, visitors to the Ovi Store will be presented with relevant, targeted content based on their social connections and physical location. In addition to all sorts of new apps, the Ovi Store will also include the best of Nokia’s current content services including Download, MOSH and Widsets.
Expected content includes applications, games, videos, widgets, podcasts and location-based apps as well as personalization content for a variety of Nokia phones.
When the upcoming Nokia N97 makes its debut in June, it will be the first device to come with the Ovi storefront pre-installed.
