Nomad Editions for iPad: Reasonably Priced Digital-only Magazines

iPad magazine apps are either single magazine apps like TIME or digital newstands like Zinio. Both deliver electronic editions of paper magazines. Nomad Editions publishes digital-only weekly magazines that cover a wide range of topics including pet dogs, wine and movies.

Nomad Editions (iTunes App Store)

Magazines are available for a reasonable 99 cents per month (4 issues) or $9.99 per year (48 weekly issues). One issue of each magazine can be downloaded for free to help decide whether or not to pay for more issues. The recent 1.7.1 update adds the ability to share magazine article via email, Facebook and Twitter. Other new features or enhancments to the app in this update are:

- Bookmarking + bookmarks menu
- Enhanced navigation
- Index feature
- Updated newsstand info screen
- Improved UI
- Side tap page turning

The app is a bit unstable and crashed several times while attempting to read a sample issue. Page turning is a big sluggish. And, the digital magazines do not appear to have any interactive features. However, the writing and photography for the sample magazine I tried (“Good Dog”) was quite good.
