YouTube has become a go-to platform for non-profits trying to get the word out about their initiatives and 2012 saw more non-profit campaigns on the video site than ever before.
YouTube and Mashable have released a list of the top 5 non-profit YouTube videos of 2012 and they are all worth watching (even if you’ve seen them before)! Check them all out below.
KONY 2012 was not only the most viral non-profit video of 2012, but it was also the most viral video of all time (before Gangnam Style) when it was released back in March.
Dumb Ways to Die
My personal favorite non-profit of the year (or maybe of all time) clocks in in the number two spot. Dumb Ways to Die, a safety PSA from Metro Trains Melbourne, has racked up over 35.6 million views since it hit YouTube in mid-November. It’s also inspired a whole slew of parodies, six of which you can view here.
Demand A Plan to End Gun Violence
Popular actors banded together to create this spot for Demand A Plan, to demand a plan to end gun violence. The video hit YouTube just a couple of weeks ago, on December 21, 2012, and has already been viewed over 6.3 million times.
Thank You Message to Selena Gomez from Hana Hwang
Selena Gomez surprised Hana Hwang, visiting her at the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. This video of Hana’s thank you message to Selena garnered 3.3 million views this year.
Boyfriend Went Vegan
Finally, this more than slightly raunchy PETA spot has racked up 2.9 million views this year, clocking in as the fifth most-viewed non-profit YouTube video of 2012.
