NPR Launches “I <3 NPR” Facebook App

NPR is looking for love on Facebook, as the public broadcaster rolled out its first app on the social networking site, I <3 (Heart) NPR, which allows users to tag themselves to their favorite member stations on an interactive map.

Users can roll their cursors over a map and see how many NPR fans have tagged their stations in each market, with the most-tagged stations being highlighted more intensely on the map.

Two audio-based trivia games are also included in I <3 (Heart) NPR — NPR Trivia Quiz and Name That Theme Song — and NPR said two more would be added when the app reaches 100,000 fans and 200,000 fans, respectively.

NPR is also pushing the use of the #gopublic tag throughout all of its platforms “to unify a conversation within public radio — it’s an expression of support for NPR, public radio or media, a public radio station, or a particular news story.”

And speaking of other NPR platforms, the public broadcaster also announced that its NPR for iPad app just topped the 1 million download mark.
